the potty

Had its first success today!! Owen was just sitting on the potty, enjoying some Cheerios, when he peed in the pot!! After he finished, he and Gram flushed it down the toilet and waved goodbye. Hurrah!!

owen in the coal hole

Monday morning, Owen decided it would be great fun to climb under my bathroom sink. This is not unusual, as he typically pulls out all the supplies (hair clips, extra lotion, etc.) from the cabinet and plays with it. On this particular morning however, he deemed it necessary to physically CLIMB INTO the cabinet. And he got stuck. As hard as I tried, I couldn't help but laugh (I'm laughing as I write this post), because I can't figure out HOW he got in there. I should have taken a picture (but that's really poor taste, huh?). I have a large basket in that cabinet that holds everything, and somehow he managed to get IN the basket, WITH all the stuff still in it. I couldn't pull the basket out, cause he would bump his head; I couldn't pull him out, cause there wasn't enough space between his head and the top of the cupboard. We finally finagled him out of there (me still laughing). I wonder when he'll try it again.

{oh, and if you're wondering about the title of this post, it's from one of my favorite books "Silas Marner," ~ the main character Eppie gets stuck and hollers out "Eppie in the coal hole."}

i keep forgetting

or is it that Owen is saying/doing things so quickly i can't keep up?

others i forgot to mention in my last post:
  • "vroom vroom" when he sees a car
  • "yinkey" for Yankee (as in Yankee stadium in his bedroom)
  • "keen keen" for "clean clean" (as in, "I've made a mess, now someone please clean it up") ~ this is actually pretty funny, cause if he sees water or a mess on the floor, regardless of whether he made it or not, he tells us to "keen keen"

we've also been working on his animal sounds, cause really, all children are cute when they sound like they live in a barn. Owen can do cow (moo moo), horse (neigh), lion (roar). He also tries to do fish lips, but it's really just his bottom lip over his top lip. Cute, nonetheless.

more words

Owen is at such a fun age right now; he mimicks everything we say. He's running all over the place, and climbing when he has the chance. One of his funniest antics is when he "sneaks" up behind us, shoulders hunched, hands in little lobster pincher style, and "tickles" us on the back. It's hilarious.
Some new words from the boy genius:
  • Yesterday in the car, Owen pointed out the window and said "airpa, airpa" - pointing to the airplane flying in the sky.
  • He recognizes the Aquafor and Vaseline and Triple Paste we use on his diaper rash, and says "bum bum" when we get it out of the drawer.
  • He started saying "poo poo," once he's finished of course. :-)
  • He's also saying garage door ("raj do") and getting better at saying "please" on his own, without us having to prompt him.
Owen is in a really good habit of putting things back after he plays with them. He has a really bad habit of putting his hands in Abbey's food and water bowl, but then of course he puts himself into time out (the corner of the dining room ~ he sits there and says "no no.") Recently he discovered Elmo, and can't get enough of the furry red fella.
