i keep forgetting

or is it that Owen is saying/doing things so quickly i can't keep up?

others i forgot to mention in my last post:
  • "vroom vroom" when he sees a car
  • "yinkey" for Yankee (as in Yankee stadium in his bedroom)
  • "keen keen" for "clean clean" (as in, "I've made a mess, now someone please clean it up") ~ this is actually pretty funny, cause if he sees water or a mess on the floor, regardless of whether he made it or not, he tells us to "keen keen"

we've also been working on his animal sounds, cause really, all children are cute when they sound like they live in a barn. Owen can do cow (moo moo), horse (neigh), lion (roar). He also tries to do fish lips, but it's really just his bottom lip over his top lip. Cute, nonetheless.

more words

Owen is at such a fun age right now; he mimicks everything we say. He's running all over the place, and climbing when he has the chance. One of his funniest antics is when he "sneaks" up behind us, shoulders hunched, hands in little lobster pincher style, and "tickles" us on the back. It's hilarious.
Some new words from the boy genius:
  • Yesterday in the car, Owen pointed out the window and said "airpa, airpa" - pointing to the airplane flying in the sky.
  • He recognizes the Aquafor and Vaseline and Triple Paste we use on his diaper rash, and says "bum bum" when we get it out of the drawer.
  • He started saying "poo poo," once he's finished of course. :-)
  • He's also saying garage door ("raj do") and getting better at saying "please" on his own, without us having to prompt him.
Owen is in a really good habit of putting things back after he plays with them. He has a really bad habit of putting his hands in Abbey's food and water bowl, but then of course he puts himself into time out (the corner of the dining room ~ he sits there and says "no no.") Recently he discovered Elmo, and can't get enough of the furry red fella.

Saying goodbye ...

This is Great Aunt Ruby. She passed away early this morning. She was 94 and on Wednesday had a major stroke. Earlier in the day, she was making her famous "chow-chow." She's one of those ladies that always presented herself well, and she never missed a family function. Even if she couldn't remember your name, she always hugged you and held your hand. I love you Aunt Ruby, and I wish you peace.

Hot

When we're feeding Owen and his food is too hot, often times we blow on it to cool it off, while saying "hot" to him to let him know why. Yesterday he started blowing on his grilled cheese before he would take a bite. It was the cutest thing.

monday night

I had to document this. We came home from the grocery store on Monday night. Kev was bringing in the bags from the car, and I was in the kitchen unpacking them. Owen wandered into the hall, and I thought he was headed into his toy room.

Suddenly I hear "git, git" ~ over and over. "Git, git." I walk into the hallway and see our precious little angel, standing at the foot of the stairs, pointing to the open gate that blocks off the staircase. He was letting me know that the "git" was open. He's simply awesome.

O at {almost} 18 months

Be sure to check out our Phanfare site with recent pics of O and his buddies in Chicago.

Currently, O loves to mimic everyone and everything. He repeats words now so we have to be very careful about what we say :-). We're teaching him to sign "please" and "thank you" ~ he does it for the things he really really wants and it's pretty cute. He still loves BALL and points out anything that is round as a ball. He clicks his tongue. He likes to fall down and thinks it's hilarious. He chuckles to himself at night in his crib when he's trying to fall asleep. We are so very blessed to have such a well-balanced and optimistic child!!

Favorite books:
Dr. Seuss' Mr. Brown Can Moo (calls it PopPop)
Five Little Monkeys
Goodnight Moon

Favorite food:
McDonald's chicken nuggets (he came close to polishing off a 10-piece while at the O'hare airport) ~ I know, once again, we're parents of the year

Favorite toy:
This one is tough ~ he loves balls so that's usually his first choice. He still loves the little plastic animals from the Gleasons. Recently he discovered the Busy Ball Popper and loves to put his face right over the hole where the balls come out and watch them.
